Background & Problem Space

Clinic waiting rooms are notorious for overcrowding, uncertainty, and frustrated patients. Fitora Queue Management modernizes outpatient department (OPD) visits by providing transparent, real-time queues accessible on patient smartphones, receptionist desks, and consultation room monitors.

Core Bottlenecks

Doctors consult at varying speeds, emergency patients require urgent queue insertion, and patients wander away when waiting times are ambiguous. The queue system must deliver sub-second status synchronization across clinic screens, doctor tablets, and patient phones.

Architectural Approach

We designed an integrated queue ecosystem powered by Supabase Realtime events. Patients book digital tokens from home or via an on-site tablet kiosk, tracking their exact position in line. Doctors control consultation status with a simple keyboard-accessible console, automatically alerting the next patient.

Key Engineering Decisions

Supabase PostgreSQL database utilizing Realtime replication channels, row-level security policies, and edge functions to broadcast live queue updates to web displays and mobile apps.

Real-Time WebSocket Subscription: Token status changes trigger instant WebSocket broadcasts to all connected waiting room displays and mobile clients.

Graceful Offline Token Allocation: If reception loses internet, local kiosk hardware retains sequence ranges to avoid duplicate token numbers.

SMS & Push Proximity Alerts: Automated notifications notify patients when they are three turns away from consultation, preventing missed appointments.
